Cycling... A state of mind...
Fitness and relaxation, a holiday travelling on soft modes of transport, which are kinder to the environment. Whether for tourism or for exercise, travel along green ways to see fauna and flora in the Marais d'Orx, the Vélodyssée towards the ports of Capbreton or Biarritz, the Véloroute alongside the river, the beach or the market in a few turns of your pedals. Avoid the traffic and parking problems. Leave your car behind!
1 vélo circuits
The bike hire office in Ondres will provide a map of the circuits, from 1 hour to 5 hours, and for all levels. Round trips from 8 to 45 km. Advice on sightseeing, excursions and good deals. You can choose either to follow them or to set off to explore and have an adventure. You can change bike to suit your outings.
Circuit 1: Capbreton (24 km)
Circuit 2: Hossegor (15 km) add to circuit 1
Circuit 3: Seignosse (18km) add to circuit 1
Circuit 4: Tarnos (20 km)
Circuit 5: Bayonne (26 km)
Circuit 6: Biarritz (17 km) add to circuit 5

And many more: ONDRES/HENDAYE with return by train or the other way round (5/6hr); ONDRES/ARCACHON with return by train from Facture to Ondres (3 days)....
Circuit 1: Capbreton
: 24 km, around 2 hrs 30 min
Capbreton: this port is the most popular destination. Allow 2 ½ hours for return trip + visit to the town. Easy route along the Vélodyssée through the pine forest, flat and alongside the river. A trip amidst nature. Arrive at Capbreton and explore the ocean along a promenade reserved for bikes and pedestrians, with restaurants with great views. At the end is the lighthouse and the passage where fishermen sell their fish in the fish market. See the aquarium, pleasure yachts and the bridge where the river you will follow on your return trip.
Circuit 2: Hossegor
: 15 km, around 2hrs, can be added to circuit 1
Hossegor is the European surfing capital. This route can be added to the Capbreton route. Go to the other side of the lighthouse to the Centrale beach, kilometres of sand dedicated to surfing, and in winter to motocross competitions. Follow the dunes in the direction of Hossegor Lake to sample some oysters and enjoy the magnificent view. Go to the legendary golf course, then go hunting for bargains in the market which takes place 4 times every week and along surfing shops and chic boutiques. Return via Capbreton.
Circuit 3: Seignosse
: 18 km, around 2hrs, can be added to circuit 1
Seignosse: A more challenging circuit. Head for the beaches of the resort which is the most elegant on the Landes coast, Hossegor. Between the dunes and the superb villas, the cycle path will take you through the slightly hilly pine forest of Seignosse. Its 6 km of beaches welcomes surfers from all over the world for a stage of the world championships. Your bike will take you there easily, you just need to help it a little! Return via Hossegor and Labenne, still on a cycle path.
Circuit 4: Tarnos/the Bayonne lighthouse
: 20 km, around 2hrs 15 min
Tarnos: 20 km of adventure and nature. Travel through a large forest, then alongside a railway, and plunge once more into the pine trees along a very easy path, leading to the beach at Tarnos and its magnificent bunkers. There follows a few kilometres of green way then an adventure trail via colourful bunkers accessible even to the very young, to reach the Biarritz lighthouse in the distance. On the long seawall a poem is painted which you absolutely must read.
Circuit 5: Bayonne
: 26 km, around 2hrs 45 min
Bayonne: 26km to explore the Basque country. Depart from Ondres along the cycle path in the direction of Tarnos. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit and follow the Vélodyssée signs to the red bridge. Follow the river bank, guided by arrows to the cathedral. At the old bridge, cycle alongside the River Nive and admire the series of small bridges which cross it. Here, the buildings are painted red and green. Bayonne is the capital of chocolate, try one! Head for the station to reach the River Adour and the road back.
Circuit 6: Biarritz
: 17 km, around 2hrs, can be added to circuit 5
Biarritz: In the footsteps of the Empress Eugenie. At the red bridge, head for the ocean to reach the Boulevard de la Plage, the Chiberta golf course and the Chambre D'Amour beach. Climb up towards the lighthouse and then redescend to the Hôtel du Palais. Cycle along the Grande Plage to the casino, to reach the Virgin's Rock. Head back through the city centre and its stylish boutiques, then follow the wide avenue to Bayonne.
Circuit 7: The Marais d'Orx
: 30 km, around 3 hrs
The Marais d’Orx: A cycle trip along the road which includes a walk. Observe the nature reserve, its birds and many other animals, visit the house of birds. A fairly challenging route, unless you settle for the walk through the Marais d'Orx. After the Labenne cycle path, the route will take you along country roads lined with magnificent trees, or for the mountain bikers along hilly paths, to find yourself in the centre of Saint Martin de Seignanx. Return to Ondres.
Circuit 8: The Adour River/Sensory garden
: 33 km, around 4hrs
The Adour River and the sensory garden. A long, hilly trip. Head for Saint Martin de Seignanx, take the second right, route de Northon(bridge), a small road lined with farms. After crossing the N117, take the Route du Seque. Mountain bikers should take the first left, Route de Lesbouyries along the canal de la Russe, and hybrid bikers the second left, Chemin de l'Adour. Travel along the riverbank on left, then after the retirement home(le Coq Hardy) go back along the stream, return via Saint Martin de Seignanx and the D26.
Circuit 9: lac du Turc, lac de Garros
: 8km of pathways, 1hr, for 8-year-olds and over
Short, very easy mountain bike circuit, through woodland. Direction, Ondres town centre. After the railway, turn right into a little housing estate to the Turc Lake. Follow the riverbank right by the edge. Turn left and then immediately right (by the parking area). Skirt right around the farm to the stony then tarmacked road. Leave the estate and cycle over the railway. Join the cycle path again to reach 1 vélo's premises.
